CLASSROOM COURSE

HOW LONG ARE THE CLASSES?
There are 15 class sessions which meet for two hours each time. there is a 10 minute break between the first and second hours. Classes during the school year meet twice a week either Monday & Wednesday evening (6-8PM) or Saturday & Sunday afternoon (1-3PM) over an eight week period.

During the summer we have evening sessions in June and July. The classes are four weeks long meeting Monday thru Thursday from 6:00-8:10PM

HOW MANY CLASSES CAN WE MISS?
The state law allows you to miss class for legitimate reasons. All the time missed, regardless of the reason, has to be made up. If you miss more than six (6) hours of class we can drop you from the current class and transfer your registration to the next available class. Students are allowed to switch between evening and weekend classes offered at the same time without being marked absent.
IF I MISS A CLASS HOW DO I MAKE IT UP?
If you are not able to attend a particular class session you are required to make-up the session missed. There are three options: 1. Come to that session with the next available group.  2. Complete an online assignment or 3. A six (6) page handwritten outline of  the Motorist Handbook. We recommend that you do not register for a class if you will miss more than three sessions
WHAT DO WE HAVE TO DO TO PASS CLASS?
There are no written exams in class. We use an interactive response system to determine if the students are learning. Traffic situations are presented on the screen and the students must apply what they are learning and respond to questions. This provides the student with immediate feedback and points out to the instructor the areas that need more instruction. Students receive five (5) points for correctly answering each question Current averages are emailed every 3-4 sessions.

The Final Exam requires a passing grade of 80% If the student does not score at least 80% the exam it must be re-taken. It can be re-taken as many times as necessary to achieve success

INSTRUCTION PERMITS

WHEN CAN I GET MY PERMIT?
Because of the waiting period requirements in the Graduated License Law we are often asked if we can authorize a permit before the start of class. If you meet the requirements we will authorize your permit at the start of class.

You are required to have: 1.Registered for the Complete Course 2. Started class, 3. Signed the Enrollment Agreement 4. Paid the balance of the classroom tuition before we can give you the necessary forms to get your instruction permit.

There are study resources at www.tridentstudents.com The best resource is the Wisconsin DMV app which is available from iTunes or Google PLay
DO WE GET OUR PERMITS IN CLASS?

You can take the permit test at the driving school up to 14 days prior to you reaching 15-1/2, providing you have registered for both the class and in-car lessons.

We administer the tests after each class session to any registered student - you do not need an appointment just arrive at the end of the session. After you begin class you must make a trip to a Motor Vehicle Service center to complete the permit process. You do not need an appointment, however, there are several requirements you must meet before they will issue you a permit.

DO NOT GO TO THE DMV WITHOUT THE FORM FROM THE DRIVER SCHOOL

IN-CAR COURSE

WHEN DOES THE IN-CAR PART OF THE COURSE START?

The in-car part of the course begins as soon as the student has obtained their permit and started class. Permit authorizations are issued as soon as the student meets the requirements. The law requires that you begin your in-car lessons within 60 days of receiving your permit authorization. You will receive access to the in-car schedule as soon as you have passed the permit test.

HOW MANY LESSONS ARE REQUIRED?

The law requires a minimum of six (6) hours of driving and six (6) hours of observation. More hours are available. The lessons are two (2) hour sessions with an hour of each.

WHAT IF I NEED MORE LESSONS?

One of the advantages of a private driving school is the we operate 12 months a year and can offer you the option of taking more lessons if you wish. The fee for additional lessons is the same.

WHEN ARE THE LESSONS OFFERED?

The lessons are available days, evenings and weekends depending on the time of year. During the school year lessons are available after school and on weekends with additional daytime lessons on weekdays for home school students. During the summer lessons are offered Monday through Thursday afternoons and Saturdays & Sundays.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE MY LESSONS?

Our entire schedule is available online. After you have met the requirements and obtained your permit you can schedule the rest of  your lessons online (24/7) at www.TridentLessons.com The available times for the next 180 days  are listed and you can have six appointments at a time.

HOW LONG DOES THE IN CAR COURSE TAKE?

The in-car part of the course could be completed in as little as 21 days, however, because of the Graduated License Law requirement that you have your permit at least six months before you are eligible for a road test, you can take advantage of this and spread your lessons out to keep re-enforcing your skills. Because all of the lessons are available online (24/7) you have total control over the spacing of the lessons. We recommend that you space the lessons about three (3) weeks apart to allow for at least six (6) hours of practice between lessons with the last session scheduled about two weeks before your road test. This will complete the in-car portion of the course in about 18 weeks.

HOW LONG IS EACH IN-CAR LESSON?

Each lesson consists of one hour of driving and one or two hours of observation You will be in the car for two hours each time.  As soon as you have completed the observation requirement if someone does not show for a lesson you will still be able to finish the course on time.

IF I MISS A LESSON HOW DO I MAKE IT UP?

You will receive a reminder email each day for the two (2) days prior to your lesson. You can change or cancel your lessons online at www.TridentLessons.com up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time. If an emergency arises less than 24 hours prior to your lesson and you know you cannot keep your appointment - CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY - If we can find someone to replace you may not be charged for the lesson.  If you do not contact us you will be charged $35.00 for the lesson

WHAT ABOUT WINTER WEATHER?

Learning to drive in all types of weather is valuable experience and so we will, if at all possible, hold lessons as scheduled! Nonetheless, you are not required to risk your safety to come to an in-car lesson. We will not charge you for lessons cancelled because of severe weather providing you call the instructor (888-644-4375) one (1) prior to the start of the lesson. If you do not call, the instructor will be there and you will be charged $35.00 for missing the lesson.

WHERE DO I MEET THE INSTRUCTOR FOR THE LESSONS?

We meet the students at our classroom at 45 N Washington Street in Elkhorn. The car will be parked in the lot behind the classroom or across the street from the building. If the car is not there the instructor is conducting a lesson and will return at your scheduled appointment time.

WHY DO YOU ONLY DO CLASSROOM PICK-UP?
We feel it provides a better learning experience and better service:

1.

Since the lessons start and end at the same location the route can be more structured insuring that every student is has essentially the same experiences and can exposed to the maximum number of traffic situations

2.

It will make scheduling lessons easier by eliminating instructor travel time between locations it allows us to offer more lessons during the week.

3 It will save you money by helping us to maintain our current tuition in the face of rising costs

GENERAL

WHEN DO I GET MY COMPLETION SLIP?

The completion certificate necessary to obtain your license will be entered directly into your driving record on the DMV website as soon as you have completed all of the course requirements. this means observation, scoring at least 80%, any written assignments, return of any school materials and payment of all fees. When you check in for your Road Test they will have the information in their records.

HOW CAN PAYMENTS BE MADE?

We accept cash, checks, money orders, PayPal, MasterCard, VISA, American Express and Discover.

We do use a service (PayAlliance) to collect returned checks. They charge the amount of the check plus a $40.00 fee and electronically debit the funds from the account.

WHEN ARE THE PAYMENTS DUE?

Tuition can be paid in full or with our convenient payment plan. After a $60.00 down payment at the time of registration and the balance of $60.00 at the first class session, the remaining tuition ($210.00) can be paid either before the start of in-car lessons or in installments ($35.00) as you take your lessons. As long as the fees are paid as you take each lesson there is no additional cost

WHAT ABOUT MY ROAD TEST?

You are eligible to take a road test as soon as you have had you permit for six months. You can schedule your road test up to 11 weeks ahead of that date at the Department of Motor Vehicles website. The scheduling is done by computer and you can call 24/7. You need to know your drivers license or social security number to login to their website. When you go to the test you will need your permit, a vehicle that will pass a safety inspection, a parent and $43.00.

DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE LESSONS?

Students under 18 can be picked up at home or school. This requires a minimum of nine lessons to complete the course. The fee for these lessons is $70.00 each.

Anyone who is over 18 years of age is not required to take a formal class or any set number of lessons therefore we offer individual private lessons weekdays which are arranged with the instructor at the convenience of the student. Lessons after 3:00 PM during the school year must be scheduled online.

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN THE HIGH SCHOOL?

We provide Driver Training - not driver education! Driving is a skill and knowing what you are supposed to do (education) is not the same as knowing how to do it (training)!

1

We are specialists all we do is teach people to drive -  The instructor is a university trained, certified Driver Education teacher who has been teaching since 1969!

2.

Our classes are live presentations with extensive use of video and PowerPoint allowing the students to interact directly with the instructor to maximize learning. We don't have the students using valuable learning time reading chapters and filling in workbooks.

3.

We are available for driving or classes evenings and weekends to accommodate your schedule You can make, change or cancel your appointments online 24/7

4.

We offer more classes per year (14) more flexibility in completing the course. We do not have a minimum class size so all of our classes are held as scheduled.

5.

Students can switch between evening and weekend classes offered during the same month without being marked absent.

6.

The length of each lesson is a maximum of one hour of driving and no more than two hours observing a day. The law regulates the amount of time a student can spend with an instructor at both private and public schools to insure that they are not too tired to be able to retain the information. Some high school programs have the students driving for two to four hours at a time which (besides being illegal) after the first hour does little more than meet the requirements

7.

We spread the in-car lessons over the six months to keep reinforcing your skills. There is no point in cramming all of the lessons into a couple of weeks at the beginning of the six months - all that accomplishes is meeting the minimum time requirements.

8.

We allow you to pay for the lessons as you take them making it easier on your budget

9.

You can get your permit, start your eligibility period and begin your in-car at the start of the course.

10.

Most of the High Schools in this area do not have their own programs - they contract out the instruction.
